Sri Neervanan

This temple is situated in Thiruneer Malai, Chennai, near to Pallavaram. There are two temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. One temple is on the base of the hill and the other temple is on top of the hill.  This temple is countable in the 108 Divya desam. People need to climb steps to reach the hill top. It would be around 200 steps. From the top of the mountain, one can view the entire Pallavaram area.

The base Temple is dedicated to Lord Rama also known as Neervanan in a standing posture and the temple up the hill has four shrines for Lord Ranganatha (Kidanthaan – in reclining posture), Animamalarmangai Thayaar, Trivikrama (Nadanthaan – in standing posture) and Lord Narasimha (Irundhaan – sitting posture). It is a double prakaram temple. The Garuda shrine faces the Lord.

How to Reach

Train Route – Beach to Tambaram trains will ply via Pallavarm; get down @ Pallavaram.  Temple is situated around 7-8 kilometers from Pallavaram, Pallavaram bus stand is 5 minutes from Pallavaram railway station.  One can reach temple by catching Pallanthandalam bus (Route no 55A) from Pallavaram bus stand.

Bus Route – All Tambaram buses plying via Guindy will stops @ Pallavaram, one can reach temple by catching Pallanthandalam bus (Route no 55A) from Pallavaram bus stand.

By Road – Take straight road from Guindy, after crossing Pallavaram signal, find the new bridge construction in front of Ponds Company, take right, that road goes via Thiruneermalai.

Things to remember

  • Early Morning or Evening time will be ideal to visit this temple because this time is pleasant to climb steps to reach the hill top.
  • Evening time (5 – 7) will be ideal to see the view from the top of the hill.
  • Plan to visit the hill top temple before 7 PM in the evening in the Ordinary days because priest will close the hill top temple early in the night.
  • Bus frequency will be very less in this route.
