Attractions in this Temple
The idol is carved in a large boulder (almost a hillock). Hence if one desires to take a round the idol (pradakshina), one needs to go round the boulder. This is called Giri-valam in Tamil. Giri is hill/mountain and Valam is going round in a clockwise manner.
The idol here is unique. While performing Arathi, the priests remove the “Namam” of Narasimhaswamy to reveal the third eye. Since Narasimha here is in a position to destroy evil, it is believed that if one sees the third eye of this god, all misery of life is removed.
How to Reach
Train Route – Beach to Chengalpattu or Tambaram to Chengalpattu trains will ply via Singaperumal Koil; get down @ Singaperumal Koil station. Temple is situated just 5 minutes walk from the station.
Bus Route – Most of the buses that ply towards Chengalpet will stops (other than express and point to point) in Singapermal Koil, several city buses are there from Tambaram. Temple is situated just 2 minutes walk from the main road.
By Road – Take straight road from Tambaram, after cross the Ford Company – Maraimalai Nagar, one can easily identified the Singaperumal Koil name board. Take left from main road, temple is situated just 2 minutes drive from the main road.
Things to remember
- Early Morning or Evening time will be ideal to visit this temple because this time is pleasant to go for Giri-valam.
- Any one can go for a Giri-valam because this is very small hillock; hardly 5-10 minutes will take for one round.
